The process of assessing means the evaluation or estimation of the nature, quality, or ability of someone or something. More specifically in the public safety and organizational world, analyzing the gaps in planning, training, equipment, exercising, or organizational/leadership structures both from an agency and a staffing perspective. Asking an organization to identify their gaps is essential in evaluating whether the agency goals and objectives are being met, and should be done at regular intervals to make important changes in programming.
